STEEL RULE PROPERTIES

 

POINTAGE: Width or thickness of rule. Each point is .014 inch. Typically rotary is 4 PT and Corrugated Flat bed 3 PT. Laser crease has unlike pointage .

BEVEL: Available in serrated or non serrated. Uses are for safety edges reducing paper cuts during handling package or for cosmetic purposes.

PROFILE: The cutting edge contour. Many choices. Regarding serrated, profile choice influences pressure, penetration, product edge appearance and rule fabrication limits.

  • HARDNESS:
    Body hardness→ More Carbon content Limits tight bending, Beam strength.
    Edge hardness→ Hardened teeth. Stands up to mallet. Maintains sharp points.
     

  • BACK NOTCHING: Relieved to curve and contour across cylinder.
    No notch curved : Resists rule cracking
     

  • DIAMETER: Match to cylinder. Watch smaller diameter folder glue machines.
     

  • HEIGHT: Realize maximum opening on machine between lower and upper cylinders. Consider anvil cover.
